So! You are interested in a random persons view of AI? Well here it is
First off, it is currently August 2026. My understanding that AI is nothing more than a autocomplete tool, with a very good search engine behind it. It is effective at answering or doing simple things, but once you dig into it, there is a lot of incorrect information it spouts out. When programming, it will add a lot of random or useless code. For example, when I wanted Claude or Gemini (this is before Claude Code) to make a Python script, it would call the most random libraries, when I wanted it to stick with only the built in ones. Maybe that's changed! But, for personal projects like this, I dont plan on using AI to write code.
However, I do use AI, especially when I am trying to debug an issue. When setting up this website for example, I was having issues giving public access to it. In that case, I used AI to provide the solution to the problem, primarilly due to its ability to search large quantities of data at once. In other words, it isnt doing something new, it is pulling something that already exists. In this case, that would be pulling from a large number of guides, reddit threads, youtube videos, etc.
Next however is how people will write messages using AI. I have heard people say they use it because they arent sure they can effectively get the point across. IMO if you are not capable of writing a message that your audience can understand, then either you don't know your audience, OR you don't trust yourself. Both of those can become big issues if it becomes a habit, especially in a business setting. It can also come across, depending on the language used, that you dont really care about the person. AI comes across as Neutral, using average words. It doesn't show personality. In other words, it is bland. Constantly using AI to send messages can leave that impression on someone, OR even rub off on you when you do write things yourself.
I'm coming from a generation that is seeing AI taking over everything, and I am concerned how it will effect the Job Market, but also peoples attention spans, their ability to think critically, and be motivated. I have a brain and I want to use it. I enjoy automating things, simplifying tasks. Currently this website is handwritten, every line of code on this page was done with a keyboard. Maybe ill make a tool to automate some of this, but it would be my Brain that does the automating, NOT a chat bot.
I do want to specify something however, especially as it relates to critical thinking. If you know a process or a language very well, then maybe AI can be beneficial if the one thing limiting your time is writing code. However, if someone is new to a field, and they are using it to do the mental load for them, then that is an incorrect use for AI. For example with this website, I won't be using AI to write code for it, theres no point. This is a hobby. However, if I am in a business setting where I want to make the best use of my time, and I know for a certainty what each line of code does, then yea I can see the benefits in using it. I will take a bet however and say that isnt what most people use AI for. They mostly use it to let it do the critical thinking. The below image is my biggest concern...
